Writing

Writing - Term 2

The children have been learning to write explanations.

1)Explain how things work
2)Explain facts about something

*For about 10 minutes twice a week, ask your child to tell you about how something works then write 3 to 4 sentences to explain this.  They don't need to worry about their spelling at that stage of the writing as their ideas are most important.

*They know that it is ok to make mistakes in their writing and that they can change their mind when they have come up with a better idea for their stories.

Week 10 - Term 1

We are learning to write sentences when we are writing our stories.

The children have had the following learning intention and success criteria over the term:

*Learning Intention:
-I am learning to write a sentence.

*Success Criteria:
-I can:
*Begin my sentence with a capital letter
*End my sentence with a full stop
*Write a capital letter for names of people and places

Children are being encouraged in the classroom to circle the evidence from their stories to show they have completed or achieved their success criteria.

Spelling

Children have a spelling notebook in their book bags.  These notebooks contain the spelling words they need to learn over the week.  At the end of the week, we will have a spelling test to check their progress.

The words children are tested on are words they need to be able to spell and use daily in their writing.

Please take the time to hear them out, test them at home once or twice and just have fun learning their list of words.
